Recently, I watched a Bollywood singing satellite TV show called Superstar Singer and was blown away with the amazing talent of the participants- ranging in age from as young as 4-5 years old to 16-17 years of age. The show ran over 6 months and this past weekend the winner was selected – Prity Bhattacharjee, a nine-year-old girl from Kolkata, India (formerly known as Calcutta). She was awarded a trophy along with a cash prizes of 15 lakhs rupees (roughly $21,000 – certainly, not a small amount!)
When Prity was asked how participating in the show had affected her, she expressed her gratitude for all she learned, and how she and the other participants along with her singing mentors and judges had become a family and she would miss them. She also shared ecstatically how she was able to get her friend back after a fight. ?
“Before coming to Mumbai… I fought with one of my friends. She bit me then I hit her… Due to our fight our mothers too stopped talking. Now after doing the show when I visited my house, she met me and she apologized to me …And now we are back as friends,” added Prity.
Often it is children that can be our most powerful teachers in what is really important and the power of forgiveness. ??
