Attitudinal Healing Talk
January 25 2016
In 1975 Jerry Jampolsky MD, a child and adult psychiatrist, established the first Center for Attitudinal Healing (AH) in California. Over the last 30 plus years Jerry and his wife Diane have worked together in 54 countries to share these ideas. Not only are they the recipients of numerous international, humanitarian awards but there are now over 100 independent AH centers and groups located in thirty-three countries on five continents offering free attitudinal healing services to children and adults facing challenging situations including sickness, life-threatening illness and other relationship and caregiver issues.
Coaching for Inner Peace is a satellite center for AH and for this week’s Monday evening talk I felt inspired to re-listen to an interview of Jerry and Diane Jampolsky- founders of from 2014. Whenever I come across anyone who is serving and offer healing services to so many people, I am always curious to know how they do what they do and how I can learn from them.
One of the practices Jerry and Diane shared as a way to step out of the ego/fearful mind and allow the Guidance of that small still voice to come through is a prayer they use sometimes three or four times a day whenever they meet with groups or face any situation where they are asked for help. It is based from the teachings of A Course in Miracles.
Here is the prayer they use:
We are here only to be truly helpful.
We are here to represent You Who sent us.
We do not have to worry about what to say or what to do because You Who sent us will direct us.
We are content to be wherever You wish, knowing You go there with us.
We will be healed as we let You teach us to heal.
And we step aside and let You lead the way.
For some of us instead of ‘You’ we may want to just substitute Love or Peace or Wisdom. The words used really do not matter. It is the practice of stepping out of our limited ego mind that lives in the past or the future and stepping fully into the present moment.
Some highlights of our talk about this prayer include:
- The only place Peace and Love and stillness exist are in the present moment
- How the movie Groundhog day illustrates how accepting the present moment and being of service to others is the way to heal our suffering
- Example of participants using this prayer when being with family members or at work
- How we can use this prayer as way to ask for healing for ourselves
