The pursuit of specialness seems to be a normal part of our experience. We long to create special moments and enjoy special occasions. We value what is special and unique about ourselves and strive to further refine and cultivate these aspects of our personality. Even the achievement of professional success seems to be intimately tied to being special.
Yet A Course in Miracles teaches that we are confused. It says that our perception is upside-down and often we cannot even recognize our best interests.
What if this pursuit of specialness was really a big distraction device?
What if like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz all that we really needed to know we had all along right within us?
What if our specialness was not about anything external – not based on what we did or did not do or what we owned or whom we knew?
What if we were already special and perfect just based on who we already are- right here, right now, in this moment and in every moment?
