Often we ‘try’ to be peaceful or happy.
Yet what if the way to happiness and peace was to look directly at all the obstacles that stand in the way?
Instead of ‘trying’ to be happy or peaceful, we can allow ourselves to become aware of the concepts we hold about ourselves, others and different situations that prevent us from experiencing the peace that is present right here, right now.
Listen as we had a powerful discussion about the following:
- The movie Simone where the lead character played by Al Pacino travels a journey where initially his self-concept of being a successful director seems to promise him happiness and joy. Yet in the end this same self-concept becomes a source of misery and unhappiness.
- One of the participants, Emil Caschetta, shares his journey to peace while negotiating a challenging process of healing many layers of self-concept – marriage, life partnership, bereavement, loss, and widowhood – to finding an authentic Self that is beyond any self-concepts.
- We also discussed about a common self-concept many of us experience around victimhood
- We offered a three-step process how we can release self-concepts of victimhood and sacrifice
