About two years ago, my Papa faced a cancer experience that had me all tied up in knots with fear and worry. I found staying in the present moment almost impossible while accompanying him as he faced all sorts of medical procedures and treatments – including chemotherapy, radiation, and eventual surgery. I found my mind projecting all my fears on what a future would be without him in my life.
One day while I was in prayer, I heard a small still voice say the following:
There is no love in worry.
These were simple words yet they helped my monkey-mind – that was preoccupied with the future – finally come to a halting stop. I realized that what I was sharing in worry was actually just fear for myself. These words helped me focus my mind on being present for Papa and my mom as we negotiated many challenging days. Fortunately, Papa made it through and this past January he celebrated his 83rd birthday.
Message from Maggie Day 2 – Healing from worry
Today’s message from Maggie repeats the same central idea – that worry is a form of fear not love and the choice for fear or love is ultimately ours.
