Yesterday while taking a walk, I kept hearing these words:
Blessed are the peacemakers.
Blessed are the peacemakers.
When I was finally able to google this phrase, I was reminded that it appears in the Bible. It is the seventh verse of the Sermon on the Mount, and also seventh of what are known as the Beatitudes. This was shared by Jesus after his resurrection. This feels significant to me. Jesus invites us to move away from the crucifixion- which is a symbol of guilt, attack, suffering, punishment, and sacrifice to the resurrection- which symbolize Life and Love that cannot die. And from this space he speaks about peace.
But what does it mean to be a peacemaker? Why is it blessed to be a peacemaker? Is peace something we make happen, like making peace between two individuals or nations at conflict with one another?
The full verse is as follows:
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.*
Yesterday we dove deep into an exploration of the fortress that the ego mind builds to defend us from claiming the source of light and love inside. We talked about how we are more afraid of our light than the darkness because in a crazy way we have become accustomed to this darkness.
Today we learned that by making peace with what is, whatever it seems to look like, we come to peace. And from this peace, we receive the healing we need. And then we can extend it to others. From a peaceful perspective, peaceful solutions and creative paradigms arise. It is blessed to be a peacemaker because only from this space of peace can we fully claim our birthright as children of God- which is the treasure of love, life, and miracles within our minds and hearts.
Being peaceful does not mean we become uncaring or uninvolved in what seems to be happening in the world. Rather, our minds become still, and we feel this stillness within us even when the body seems to be doing whatever is to be done through us. We come into this flow where our needs are met with more ease, less effort, and less stress.
