A Course in Miracles study group
March 8 2016
A colleague of mine recently shared with me his experience of identity theft and all the steps he would need to take to sort this all out.
Of course it was important that my friend take care of these practical steps. Yet as I left our meeting and headed home to facilitate our noon ACIM study group, I found myself reflecting on the whole issue of identity.
Who am I? Am I just my name printed on a credit card or linked to a social security number?
Am I just this body? Am I just a woman or man? Am I my age which can be young or old? Am I my profession? A doctor or writer or lawyer?
Am I just a mother? A sister? A son? An immigrant? Am I my political or religious affiliation? Am I a spiritual seeker? Am I student of philosophy?
Or am I something more? And can this Truth of who I am ever be taken away from me?
In the Zen Buddhist tradition, a Master may ask his student to contemplate this famous koan:
“Show me your Original Face, the face you had before your parents were born.”
Join us in this talk where we go deep within.
The first twenty minutes or so we come together in a guided meditation. The remainder of the talk is a discussion.
This place of silence and Presence within us cannot be described by words but must be experienced. This place can only be accessed from the present moment.
Questions we can ask to lead us to the present moment where we can experience this place of Presence:
What prevents me from fully being present to this moment?
What is lacking in this moment?
Where is my attention?
Am I focused on the external perception or am I observing my mind? How am I feeling right now, right here?
**Please note- the first two minutes of audio are not clear but after that it is pretty clear!
Enjoy!
